Don’t boo. Vote!

You might have noticed that Canadians are not showing much support for their American neighbours at sporting events these days when the American anthem is being played. Canadians are booing the American national anthem as a form of voicing their – voices.
A famous and popular former president once had to calm a crowd down after they started booing against someone who was not too popular with the crowd. That former president had to calm the crowd down by saying to them, “Don’t boo. Vote.”
Well, Canadians can’t vote in an American election. And they are very upset at what Americans are doing to them right now. So they boo. Personally, I don’t like it when they boo. It makes me uncomfortable. But considering what is happening at this time in history between two friendly nations who have been working together in industry and trade for well over a hundred years, I think the Canadians are being polite.
Imagine a 10 year old kid. He’s big for his age and he’s a real bully. He doesn’t like to pick on kids his own size so he picks on smaller kids. So let’s say this kid has friend, well an acquaintance, who needs a bicycle. This friend is shopping around to find a nice bike and the bully comes along and says to his friend, “Don’t buy a bike. I’ll find you one.”
So one day the bully kid is standing around, probably bullying somebody, and he sees a kid riding towards him on a nice new bicycle. The bully sees an opportunity so he hides until the kid on the bike gets close. Then he reaches in his back pocket and pulls out a wrench. As the kid on the bike rides past the bully sticks the wrench between the spokes of the bike. The bike stops immediately and the kid goes flying. Ouch. Not funny.
The bike has a few bent spokes but otherwise it’s okay. The kid that was riding the bike is pretty scratched up. The kid stands up and yells out as the bully grabs the bike, “Hey you can’t take that. That’s my bike. I paid for it. I worked hard and paid for it myself.”
The bully turns around and looks at the kid suddenly realizing he’s another one of his friends, well, an acquaintance. So the bully walks over to the kid and suddenly kicks him in the knees sending him to the ground again in agonizing pain. The bully yells at the kid, “Well I’m taking it and nobody can stop me.” Then turns and walks away with the kid’s nice new bike that he worked hard for and paid for himself.
So the kid, now sitting on the ground, watches the bully walk away and says, “Boooooo.”
